A £500 grant from Broadacres has helped Northallerton Family Funday continue its long-standing tradition of bringing local people together for a day of family-friendly activities and entertainment.
The popular event, held on 12 July, offered a packed programme of activities for families, including a children’s fun run, arts, crafts and nature activities, alongside main arena entertainment.
Previously known as Northallerton Carnival, the event was renamed Northallerton Family Funday to better reflect its focus on inclusive family activities, community participation and affordable entertainment.
Funday chair Phil Craig said: “When you think of carnival, you think of a parade and that has confused some people about what the day is all about.
“We wanted to keep the best traditions of the fun stalls that might have been around 100 years ago and build on them with a children’s fun run, arts, crafts and nature activities and main arena events including gymnastics and a motorcycle display.”
As the event has grown, organisers identified a need for a central information point where visitors could find help and information throughout the day.
Through our Community and Sustainability Fund, we awarded the Funday £500 towards a new gazebo to create an information hub, as well as event banners and prizes for children taking part on the fun run.
Local businesses also supported and sponsored the event, helping organisers to keep activities free or affordable and ensure as many families as possible could enjoy the day.
Our Broadacres team also joined in the fun on the day, running colouring competitions for children attending the event.

Phil added, “It was Northallerton at its best – a chance for the town to come together for a fun day out that everyone can afford.”

Grants of up to £500 are available, with awards of up to £1,000 considered in exceptional circumstances.
