Broadacres’ first community action day of 2024 was a great success with great support from our customers.

The Northallerton Community Action Day once again involved various partners, including North Yorkshire Police, Northallerton Town Council and various local support agencies coming together at the Town Hall for a large ‘one stop shop’ of help and advice.

Using feedback from our customers, we were asked to design a day which focused on four key priorities:

  • Improving the environment.
  • Reducing anti-social behaviour
  • Repairs to homes and estates
  • Having an agency presence

The aim was to demonstrate to our customers our commitment and dedication when it comes to creating great communities, and here are just some of the highlights from the day:

  • 413 customers provided feedback, accessed support or information through the drop-in service either prior or on the day, with 24 stating they did not know about the services we offered
  • 13 home visits were carried out to customers who requested specific visits on the day.
  • 42 joint visits completed in connection with reducing anti-social behaviour and crime in the area.
  • An estate walkabout covering the main areas was completed by the housing team with all customers receiving a door knock.
  • Six skips full of rubbish were removed from the area.
  • Local monitors were invited to provide their feedback on the area.

Of the 314 customers surveys completed as part of the community action day, 93% of customers described feeling “safe” or “very safe” in their community; 92% of customers were confident and knew how to contact Broadacres if needed; 35% of customers requested further support or information, this included topics on grounds maintenance, ASB, financial matters and estate management, and 86% of customers said they knew how to contact their local policing team.

Here is a selection of quotes from customers on the day:

“I am delighted you are doing this again; I have come out to see you today as I don’t like attending the office, but this is much more comfortable for me to attend. Thank you, you do a great job.

“Thank you for your help and support today, I really did not know what to do or who to call, by calling in today and speaking to you, I feel much better!”

“We had no idea that you provided such lovely accommodation and services to you customers, we are looking to relocate as our current housing provider does not look after their customers like you do. We will be applying for one of your lovely homes when we get back – thank you for your time and support.”

“I’ve been so worried about my neighbours and didn’t know what to do or who to contact, you being here today has enabled me to chat to someone in person and gain the advice and support I need!”

“A huge thank you to all involved for your support prior and during the event.”

This was just the first of nine community action days planned in 2024, the next taking place for customers in Bedale, Leeming and Aiskew at the Riverside Club, Bedale, on 19th March.
