Community & Sustainability Fund

Community & Sustainability Fund

The Community & Sustainability Fund provides grants of up to £500 to support projects that strengthen communities and improve the environment across North Yorkshire.

By bringing together our Community Development Fund and Sustainability Fund, we can support community-led ideas that deliver social, environmental, or shared benefits for local people.

What the fund supports

The fund is open to local organisations, community groups, and resident-led projects that help to:

Build stronger communities
  • support activities, events, or projects that bring people together
  • Strengthen neighbourhood connections and promote safer, more inclusive communities
  • Improve wellbeing, community spirit and quality of life
Support the environment and sustainability
  • Protect wildlife or create new habitats
  • Plant trees or improve local green spaces
  • Encourage people to grow their own fruit and vegetables
  • Create or improve outdoor spaces for the community to enjoy

*Projects can focus on community impact, environmental benefit, or both.

How to get involved

Our customers help decide which projects receive funding through a voting process.

To take part in voting, you can join our Customer Network by contacting our Customer Engagement Team. You can do this via our contact us page here.

The Customer Network is made up of customers who share feedback:

  • Online
  • Through surveys
  • By taking part in focus groups

Members may also be asked to share views on services, policies under review, and applications to the Community & Sustainability Fund.

What happens next

  • Once voting closes, all online and in-person votes are combined
  • Applications are ranked based on the number of votes received
  • Funding is allocated starting with the highest-ranked applications
  • Applications that receive no votes will not receive funding
  • If two applications receive the same number of votes, they will receive the same amount of funding

Once bank details have been received and verified, we aim to issue payments within 28 days of voting closing.
