Broadacres’ Money Advice Team has helped customers across North Yorkshire access nearly £2 million in extra financial support over the past year.
Between April 2024 and March 2025, the team secured a total of £1.9 million in additional income for almost 1,000 Broadacres customers, ensuring people received the financial help they are entitled to during a time when many are feeling the pressure of rising costs.
Based in Northallerton, The Money Advice Team provides free, confidential support to customers facing financial challenges by helping them claim unclaimed benefits, reduce debts, and manage their budgets more effectively.
John Botham, Money Advice Team Leader, said:
“Our work is all about helping customers fix a budget that doesn’t work for them and making sure they are not missing out on income they are entitled to. We want people to feel more in control of their finances and confident about their future.”
The team’s support has already transformed lives.
A couple living with arthritis are now £26,000 better off each year after being helped to claim a range of benefits they did not realise they were entitled to, including Attendance Allowance.
A single mother with health problems, previously struggling to return to work, discovered she could claim up to 85% of her childcare costs. This changed her outlook completely. She is now back at work and says her mental health has improved as a result.
A man facing eviction due to serious rent arrears was given expert budgeting advice and referred for mental health support. He is now managing his finances and maintaining his tenancy.
John added:
“We cover all key welfare benefits, but we can also help people access one-off payments such as help with funeral costs or grants to buy essential household items, energy, or food.
We also support customers to reduce outgoings, whether that is stopping an overpayment, switching to a cheaper supplier, or identifying scams. Our work is wide-ranging, but every success, big or small, makes a difference.”
The Broadacres Money Advice Team includes Andrea Lowery, Diana Dixon, Lee Whitwell-Phillips, Rebecca Garrett, and Team Leader John Botham.
At Broadacres, we are incredibly proud of our Money Advice Team and the difference they make every day. Their dedication, compassion and expertise continue to have a real impact, helping customers across our communities feel more secure and supported.
