Broadacres has launched a new Community & Sustainability Fund, bringing together our existing Community Development Fund and Sustainability Fund into a single grant programme.
The fund offers grants of up to £500 to support projects that bring people together, strengthen communities and improve the environment across North Yorkshire.
Applications for the current funding round are now open and close on 24 July 2026.
The new Community & Sustainability Fund has been created to make it easier for local organisations, community groups and resident-led projects to access funding for initiatives that make a positive difference in our communities.
By combining two existing funding streams into one fund, we can support a wider range of projects that benefit people, places and the environment.
Applications are welcome from:
Projects should be based within the communities Broadacres serves across North Yorkshire.
The fund supports projects that help build stronger communities and improve the environment.
This could include projects that:
Projects can focus on community benefits, environmental improvements, or a combination of both.
Broadacres customers help decide which projects receive funding through a customer voting process.
Members of our Customer Network review applications and vote for the projects they feel will have the greatest impact in the communities.
Once voting closes, online and in-person votes are combined and applications are ranked according to the number of votes received.
Funding is then allocated starting with the highest-ranked projects.
A maximum of 12 projects can receive funding in each round. If all available funding has been allocated, eligible applications may be carried forward and considered in the next funding round.
Successful applicants will receive funding once bank details have been received and verified, with payments typically made within 28 days of voting closing.
The Community & Sustainability Fund builds on the success of our previous Community Development Fund and Sustainability Fund, which have supported a range of community and environmental projects across North Yorkshire.
One project previously supported through the Sustainability Fund was Applegarth Community Garden in Northallerton, which received funding towards raised beds, compost, seeds, bulbs and plants to help create a thriving community growing space.
Our Community Development Fund has also supported Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough, helping to provide creative and horticultural opportunities for people with disabilities while supporting wellbeing, skills development and community connections.
If you have a project that could make a positive difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you.
Whether you’re looking to bring people together, improve a local green space, support wildlife or create new opportunities for residents, the Community & Sustainability Fund could help turn your idea into reality.
