Electrical safety

We have a legal duty to make sure that you, or anyone entering or using your home, are not put at risk and the electrical system in your home remains in a safe condition

About electrical safety

We carry out an inspection of your home every 5 years to check the condition of your home’s electrical installation against the UK Standard.

Help to reduce the risk of electrical accidents and fires around your home

  • Register any electrical appliances that you bring into your home: If there is a problem, the manufacturer will be able to contact you
  • Don’t overload sockets: Visit electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk and use the electrical calculator to make sure that you are safe
  • Don’t use electrical appliances from overseas in the UK: Products manufactured for use in other countries may operate at a different voltage and frequency
  • Don’t attempt any repairs to the electrical wiring or appliances yourself
  • Don’t take mains-powered electrical products into the bathroom
  • Don’t touch electrical appliances or switches with wet hands
  • Don’t plug adaptors into adaptors
  • Do tell Broadacres immediately if you think there is a problem with your electrical system
