Tenancy fraud

At Broadacres we aim to make the best use of our homes and ensure that they are occupied in accordance with the law, our tenancy agreements and our charitable objectives.

About tenancy fraud

Preventing and tackling tenancy fraud is an important way in which we can achieve this aim. There are hundreds of thousands of people across the country waiting for secure housing and tenancy fraud contributes to the lack of such housing. It also costs the public purse over £900 million a year.

Examples of tenancy fraud

  • Someone is not living in their home as their only or main home.
  • Someone is renting out their home and is not living there.
  • Giving false statements to obtain a tenancy.
  • Giving false statements about personal circumstances
  • Illegally occupying or subletting
  • Giving false statements about Right to Buy
  • Not telling us about moving out.
