Our supported housing service in Northallerton that helps dozens of young people move on from homelessness will continue after Broadacres secured a new contract.
We are pleased to share that we have secured a new four-year contract to continue delivering The Crossing, a supported housing scheme in Northallerton for young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The contract was awarded by North Yorkshire Council following a competitive tendering process and includes the option to extend for a further year.
We have more than 20 years’ experience delivering specialist support services for young people aged 16 to 25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
In 2014, Broadacres invested £1.4 million in The Crossing. The scheme provides nine self-contained flats for young people who have been assessed as homeless by the local authority, as well as six additional supported accommodation units within the local community.
Since opening in 2014, 46 young people have successfully moved on from The Crossing into independent living in their own homes.
The service is delivered in partnership with Inspire North and Foundation, providing tenancy-related support alongside help with training, employment and personal development. The aim is to help young people build confidence, develop essential life skills and break the cycle often described as “no home – no job – no home.”
Katie Wharfedale, Service Manager for Support Services at Broadacres, said:
“Along with our key partners, we are delighted to be able to continue offering this much-needed service for young people in our communities.
“People sleeping on the street are almost 17 times more likely to have been victims of violence and over nine times more likely to take their own life than the general population, so services like The Crossing are vital.
“Through our dedicated, enthusiastic and highly qualified staff, we provide support and guidance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, delivering an individual service which makes a real difference to people’s lives.”
The Crossing continues to play an important role in supporting young people to move on from homelessness and take their first steps towards independent living.
