Broadacres’ new Northallerton supported housing scheme

New supported housing scheme in Northallerton helps people with learning disabilities take the next step towards independence

We’re proud to be opening a brand-new supported housing scheme in Northallerton, offering a safe and welcoming place for people with learning disabilities to build their confidence and independence.

Located on South Parade, the building, which we own and have recently transformed from former NHS nurses’ accommodation, now provides five modern en-suite flats. Customers will also share bright communal spaces, including a kitchen and living/dining area, designed to encourage social connection and daily living skills.

Working closely with North Yorkshire Council, we have identified people who will benefit most from this new service. They include individuals with autism, people who have been living with their families and want to take a step towards independence, and someone moving closer to their mum for extra support.

Sarah Beniams, our Scheme Manager for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities, said:

“This is a really positive step for local people who are ready to gain more independence but still need a supportive environment.

Being close to Northallerton town centre is a huge benefit as it gives customers the opportunity to learn essential life skills such as shopping, travelling, and managing their own routines. For many, this will be the first step towards living completely independently or continuing to receive a lower level of support from us in the future.”

Our Learning Disabilities Team will provide daily support from 8am to 8pm, with additional out-of-hours help available. Support will be tailored to each customer’s individual needs, focusing on areas such as cooking, cleaning, and managing money.

The launch of this scheme has also created two new support worker roles, bringing our Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Team to 23 colleagues in total.

This development is part of our ongoing commitment to providing great homes, great communities and great customer experiences for people across North Yorkshire.
