Scout group prepared for new adventures thanks to Broadacres grant

A local Scouts group is set for new adventures after receiving funding from Broadacres’ Community Development Fund.

Romanby Scout Group, near Northallerton, has been awarded £500 to help buy new tents, sleeping bags and transport trolleys. The equipment will support camping trips and outdoor activities, as well as being available for young people to borrow for expeditions.

Scouts has been helping young people build confidence, learn life skills and enjoy the outdoors for over 100 years. The group welcomes children aged 4 to 14, giving them opportunities to try new activities and gain independence.

Craig Stevenson, Scout Leader and fundraiser for the group, said the funding will make a real difference.

“For children, it’s a chance to step away from screens and experience something different,” he said.

“They learn important skills, build confidence and enjoy time outdoors. It starts with simple experiences like spending a night away from home, and progresses to camping trips where they learn practical skills such as putting up tents, lighting fires safely and exploring the countryside.”

The new equipment will help make these experiences more accessible, ensuring more young people can take part in activities and adventures.
