Broadacres community grant helps Knaresborough charity continue to bloom

A Knaresborough-based charity supporting people with disabilities and sight loss is continuing its work thanks to funding from Broadacres Housing Association.

Henshaws Arts and Crafts Centre, part of Henshaws, has received funding from our Community Development Fund to support its horticultural workshop.

The centre provides a welcoming and creative space for people with disabilities and additional support needs to become “Art Makers”, taking part in tailored workshops and training designed to build skills, confidence and independence.

The funding will be used to purchase seeds, bulbs and equipment for the horticultural workshop, where participants grow plants from seed. These plants are then sold or used in the centre’s café, helping to support the charity’s wider work.

Flora Simpson, Philanthropy Manager at Henshaws, said,

“Every step of the process encourages independence and a sense of achievement, helping our Art Makers to learn useful new skills and recognise their self-worth.

“We are very grateful for the grant. As we move through spring, this funding will go a long way in helping us buy the seeds, bulbs, starter kits and equipment we need.”

Henshaws has a long history of supporting people with sight loss and disabilities, dating back to 1810. Today, the charity works with individuals, families and carers across the North, providing specialist support, creative opportunities and community connections.

The Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough offers a calm and supportive environment where people can develop their creativity, build confidence and connect with others.
