Growing Greener Communities Together

Looking after the places our customers live is an important part of what we do.

After customers told us they would like to see more visible environmental improvements in their neighbourhoods, we planted 20 new silver birch trees across several communities.

Ten trees were planted in Norby, Thirsk, with a further ten planted in areas requested directly by customers:

  • Oswaldene, Osmotherley
  • The Orchards, Brompton
  • Leven Road, Stokesley
  • Walton Close, Huby

The planting was carried out by a group of Broadacres volunteers, who gave their time to help enhance shared green spaces and encourage local wildlife.

In communities like these, green areas are an important part of local character. As the trees establish and grow, they will enhance the look and feel of the neighbourhood, provide habitats for birds and insects and contribute to a healthier environment for years to come.

Why silver birch?

Silver birch trees are native to the UK and well suited to our climate. They are hardy, resilient and provide year-round interest, with fresh green leaves in spring and distinctive white bark in winter.

Choosing native species helps strengthen local ecosystems while ensuring the trees thrive in North Yorkshire conditions.

A Community Effort

The planting programme is a practical example of our #YouSaidWeDid approach in action. Listening and responding to what our customers tell us helps us build strong, sustainable communities across the areas we serve.

“The recent tree planting event in our communities was a real success, bringing new life to areas that will benefit for years to come. Each tree planted is a lasting investment in a healthier, more sustainable future as we continue to care for our green spaces for the benefit of customers and wildlife.” – Felix Orchard, Sustainability Apprentice at Broadacres.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the planting day and helped make a positive difference in their local area.
