Buying your home from us

As a Broadacres tenant you may be eligible to buy your home under one of two schemes:

  • Preserved Right to Buy (RTB)
  • Right to Acquire (RTA)

These schemes are offered by Registered Social Landlords and give tenants the chance to buy their rented home outright at a discount. The discount is calculated depending on the number of years they have spent as a tenant. The discount is limited to £24,000 for North Yorkshire.

You may be able to exercise the Right to Buy jointly with members of your family who have lived with you for the past twelve months or with someone who is a joint tenant with you. If your tenancy is in joint names, all tenants must indicate if they wish to purchase the property or not.

Which Scheme applies to you?

If you were a secure tenant of Hambleton District Council before April 1993 and you became an assured protected tenant when ownership of your home transferred to Broadacres you may qualify for the ‘Preserved Right to Buy’ scheme.

Under the RTA scheme the property and the tenant must qualify. To qualify for the scheme the property must have been built or purchased by a registered social landlord, funded on or after 1 April 1997 through social housing grant provided by the Housing Corporation.

What we will do?

If you have a Preserved Right to Buy or Right to Acquire and you wish to purchase your home we will:

  • Provide you with free advice on completing your application and helping you through the process
  • Send you an application pack in the post including an RTB Application form and the relevant supporting Leaflets
  • Confirm if you have the Right To Buy within four weeks providing we have all relevant information
  • Provide you with a valuation of your property within twelve weeks of your application, if we have all relevant information and Darwins the Valuers are allowed access to your property
  • Fulfil all of our obligations and responsibilities to you as a buyer
  • Respond fully to any enquiry within agreed timescales
  • Offer high quality and relevant advice and help.

Remember

Many people don’t consider all the advantages and disadvantages of buying. Mortgage companies often repossess houses because owners can’t afford the repayments.

Don’t be hasty. Think carefully and take advice before committing yourself.
