Sowerby Gateway

Sowerby Gateway is a multi use development
which is proposed to be built between now and 2026 to the south
west of Thirsk on a site which is the preferred allocation for
development within the Local Development Framework. It will
be a natural extension to the town and incorporate many different
features. Uses will include employment, commercial, housing,
care, educational, retail, leisure and recreational facilities
including allotments. It will be a sustainable development
which will include green routes, cycle ways, sustainable drainage
and open space. Broadacres has undertaken to develop the
first phase and two subsequent housing phases in partnership with
CastleVale who intend are the lead developer for the whole
site. CastleVale are the developers for the whole site.
The first phase will consist of 108 houses, 40% of which will be
offered on affordable tenures including rent and low cost home
ownership. The affordable houses will be a mix of 2, 3
and 4 bedrooms and will be built to lifetime homes standards.
All houses will be to Code 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes
which means that they will have a low carbon footprint and lower
running costs.
The involvement of public art will be a
key feature of the development and the public will be encouraged to
become involved in a number of ways.
The public consultation starts on
12th July 2010 and will be ongoing through the
development period.
The planning application for the first phase
is likely to be submitted in early August 2010 and if successful
building work would begin in early 2011.
