Hate Reporting Centres
BROADACRES – HATE REPORTING CENTRES
On Monday 15th March 2010 North Yorkshire
Police in conjunction with the Hambleton Community Safety
Partnership trained 25 members of Broadacres staff in relation to
Hate Incident reporting. The purpose of the training was to enable
the 5 area offices operated by Broadacres to be utilised as Hate
Incident Reporting Centres. This allows any person to inform the
Police of hate incidents via Broadacres and to that point any
incident they are not comfortable with contacting the Police
direct.
The Association of Chief Police Officers
defines Hate Incidents as:
A hate crime is any incident that constitutes a criminal
offence perceived by the victim or any other person as being
motivated by prejudice or hate.
It is widely recognised that hate crime
incidents are under reported and it is hoped that some of the
barriers to reporting are removed by having the facility to report
at other locations. This does not prevent any person contacting the
Police direct with any hate related issue.
The impact of hate crime is far reaching and
some recent and very tragic cases have been widely reported.
Broadacres is now the main Hate Incident
Reporting Centre In Hambleton, and any persons can now report any
hate incidents to any of the trained Broadacres Housing staff.
If you are a victim of any hate crime, please
visit one of Broadacres Offices to report the incident, do not
suffer in silence.
