We have recently completed our consultation about introducing a new way of letting homes known as choice based lettings.

Choice based lettings means that we will advertise our vacant properties and those registered with the scheme can bid (show interest) for the homes.  We are intending to introduce this system across most of North Yorkshire.  This means that applicants would only need to register once to bid for homes owned by a range of landlords.

Our consultation showed that applicants were in favour of such a scheme and also the changes that we proposed to our allocations policy.  The results of the consultation can be viewed here.

We are now working on refining the scheme and the policy in the light of the feedback that we received.  We hope that it will be operational towards the end of 2010.
