Tenants’ & residents’ association

What are they?

Tenants associations are where groups of tenants on an estate or in a village or scheme get together to represent their neighbourhood. These groups are an effective way for tenants to express their views. If you are interested in setting up a tenants association, we can provide financial help and other help to get you started.

What is involved?

If you want us to recognise you as a group that represents your neighbourhood/scheme you must:

  • have an agreement setting out some rules for the group;
  • elect a chairman, secretary and treasurer;
  • have at least 3 open meetings each year;
  • have a proper system for looking after the group’s money;
  • have a minimum number of members.

What are the benefits?

You will be able to ask us to meet with you to discuss issues that affect your area. You will be entitled to financial support of £5 per member in your set up year and £2 per member in the following years.
