Mutual Exchanges

This is where you find another tenant to exchange homes with. The tenant could be our tenant, another housing association’s tenant or a council tenant.

You must have our written permission and that of any other landlord before you move.

We will not be able to give you permission if the person who you want to exchange with does not meet the financial eligibility conditions of our lettings policy.

You can download the latest Financial Eligibility Criteria here.

Also some properties may have restrictions on who can live in them, for example there may be a planning condition that says only people with a local connection can be offered the property. The other tenant would need to meet this condition as well.

We may also refuse an exchange if:

  • Legal action is being taken against either tenant for not meeting the conditions of the tenancy
  • The property will be too large or small for the new tenant; or
  • The property has special services or facilities which the new tenant does not need.

Your details will then be added to our mutual exchange database. This database will include details of all the tenants who have registered for this service and you will be able to search for the type of property and areas that you want.

Once you have found someone to exchange with you and the person you are exchanging with need to complete a “ Request to carry out a mutual exchange form”
