Shared ownership

(Sometimes known as "New Build Homebuy")

Shared ownership or New Build Homebuy is where you buy a share of a newly built property and pay reduced rent to Broadacres on the remaining share you do not own.

Gradually you may buy further shares (known as staircasing) and eventually own your home outright. There are exceptions in some rural areas where the maximum share you can purchase is 80%.

The share you purchase is funded by a mortgage, which you will need to arrange with a bank or building society. In most cases you start with a 50% share in a home, however sometimes you may purchase a smaller or larger share.

You have the normal rights & responsibilities of a full owner-occupier subject to terms and conditions of a Lease.

We have two types of shared ownership scheme:

1. New Build Homebuy
Applicants for this scheme must also be approved by the Homes and Communities Agency's appointed agent, currently My4walls (part of the Yorkshire Housing Group).

2. Broadacres Shared Ownership
Broadacres also operate their own shared ownership scheme and these applications are dealt with directly by Broadacres.
