Getting help to pay your rent
You may be entitled to Housing benefit to help you pay your
rent. This is a government scheme run by your local council. You
can get application forms from your local council office or from
one of our offices. If you have any questions, you should contact
the Housing Benefit Section of your local council. We will be happy
to help you fill in the forms and provide advice where
possible.
Many councils have a benefit calculator on their website which
allows you to check whether you are eligible for Housing benefit

However even if you are not sure, you should still make a claim,
as it is difficult to claim benefit for any period in the past.
If you have made a new claim for Housing Benefit or if your
entitlement to Housing Benefit changes, you should let us know
immediately. If you are waiting for your Housing Benefit claim to
be assessed, you should ask for a provisional assessment of your
claim to find out how much rent you will have to pay. You may also
be able to receive an interim payment.
