Learning disabilities service
Broadacres' supported housing provides safe environments with
support services to enable people to develop the skills and
confidence to successfully manage their own tenancies.
Many people with a learning disability often live in an
environment that does not allow for the development of the
confidence and skills necessary to enable them to live within their
own accommodation. This denies them the opportunity and choice of
living independently.
Broadacres has developed two schemes, each accommodating six
people in self contained flats or bed-sits, in Northallerton, both
offering long term support on site between 8am and 10pm and on call
support between 10pm and 8am
Support workers carry out regular assessments with service users
to determine their confidence and skills in dealing with the
practical day-to-day issues of maintaining a tenancy.
We also encourage and assist service users in day-to-day tasks
whilst empowering them to take the necessary managed risks to
develop confidence and encompass a comprehensive resettlement
package that links directly into ongoing tenancy support ensuring
long-term sustainability of tenancies.
The service will offer experiences designed to promote
individuality and offer opportunities for service users to lead
stimulating challenging and fulfilling lives whilst maintaining the
right to live ordinary lives within the community.
