Day care service
ABLE, based in Scorton, provides an opportunity for people with
learning or physical disabilities, mental health issues or
dementia, to engage in meaningful activities which help to improve
concentration, aid dexterity, encourage decision-making and promote
social interaction.
The experienced, fully trained staff have a mixture of care
qualifications including specialist dementia care, counselling and
further education teachers' certificates enabling the delivery of
person centred development plans for those who use the service,
helping each individual to explore their own potential.
Some of the activities enjoyed at ABLE include card making,
watercolour painting, glass and pottery painting, woodcraft, soft
furnishings, patchwork and embroidery.
Music sessions, quizzes and games, including Wii bowling, are
enjoyed by those attending the centre.
The centre welcomes visitors who wish to come and see the
artwork being created and browse the finished pieces, which are
available for purchase. Commissions are also taken for original
pieces of artwork or soft furnishings.
