Getting help to pay your rent
You may be entitled to Housing benefit to help you pay your rent. This is a government scheme run by your local council. You can get application forms from your local council office or from one of our offices. If you have any questions, you should contact the Housing Benefit Section of your local council. We will be happy to help you fill in the forms and provide advice where possible.

However even if you are not sure, you should still make a claim, as it is difficult to claim benefit for any period in the past.
If you have made a new claim for Housing Benefit or if your entitlement to Housing Benefit changes, you should let us know immediately. If you are waiting for your Housing Benefit claim to be assessed, you should ask for a provisional assessment of your claim to find out how much rent you will have to pay. You may also be able to receive an interim payment.
