Buying your home from us

As a Broadacres tenant you may be eligible to buy your home under one of two schemes:

  • Preserved Right to Buy (RTB)
  • Right to Acquire (RTA)

These schemes are offered by Registered Social Landlords and give tenants the chance to buy their rented home outright at a discount. The discount is calculated depending on the number of years spent as a tenant. The discount under the RTA is limited to £10,000.  As of 2 April 2012, the RTB discount has increased.  Previously, the maximum RTB discount was limited to £24,000 for the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber.  Now, the maximum discount is £75,000 for anywhere in England.

Which Scheme applies to you?

If you were a secure tenant of Hambleton District Council before 1993 or Harrogate Borough Council before 1997 and you became an assured protected tenant when ownership of your home transferred to Broadacres you may qualify for the ‘Preserved Right to Buy’ scheme.

Under the RTA scheme the property and the tenant must qualify. To qualify for the scheme the property must have been built or purchased by a registered social landlord, funded on or after 1 April 1997 through social housing grant provided by the Housing Corporation.
